 
BINNACLE COMPASS NAUTICAL HELMET COMPASS ALL BRASS 
The classic Lifeboat Compass or Helmet Compass provided in Lifeboats. It gets its name from the helmet shaped brass hood enclosing the compass. The helmet that encloses the compass did not let it get wet in the spray or bad weather and the oil lamp fitted on its side kept it lit even in a severe dowsing from waves, hence it was ideal for use in an open lifeboat. The compass inside it is fully gimbaled and airdamped the compass rose is 3" in diameter. The entire instrument measures 6" tall, the base is 6" in diameter and it is 7" at its widest including the lamp enclosure. The compass functions but is not recommended for navigation. |
